- Cauce Ciudadano
Cauce Ciudadano works to prevent and confront the vast and growing crisis of youth violence and crime in Mexico. A young person who goes through the criminal system in Mexico has a 92% probability of relapse. Through its programs, Cauce reduces this relapse index to 26%, and at a fraction (less than 25%) of the cost of incarceration. As of 2012, Cauce’s programs reached over 68,000 beneficiaries through public schools and community centers.
With the abc* Foundation’s support, Cauce opened a new community center in Ecatepec in April 2012, which serves over 200 at-risk teenagers aged 14-19, and is developing an online television channel to promote and raise awareness about the organization’s work.
The abc* Foundation is also working with Cauce Ciudadano on the creation of the Instituto para el Desarrollo de la Resiliencia en Mexico (Institute for the Development of Resilience in Mexico). This entity will train teachers, conduct research on youth that have overcome violent patterns, and evaluate and verify the results of Cauce’s programs.
